When envisioning our restaurant, the team at Visitation Hotel knew we’d need to craft something truly special; a welcoming space where guests and locals alike could enjoy locally sourced cuisine, inspired cocktails, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
The result is Wye Oak Tavern.
A fitting addition to Frederick’s rightly renowned gourmet landscape, Wye Oak (helmed by acclaimed celebrity Executive Chef Bryan Voltaggio) is a distinctive locavore restaurant where the ever-evolving menu is inspired by the season, landscape and bounty of the region. Timeless favorites share space with surprising plates, and curated cuisines of undeniable excellence. Each course is served within warm elegant surroundings that encourage community and goodwill.
Meet Bryan Voltaggio
Visitation Hotel had an uncompromising vision for our restaurant. When searching for an Executive Chef, we knew we’d need to find someone truly remarkable; a culinary visionary with a passion for excellence, and a peerless knowledge of local cuisine. Even so, when looking for someone both outstanding and steeped in local tradition, we didn’t anticipate getting as lucky as we did.
Wye Oak’s Executive Chef is noted author, pilot, reality cooking show star, James Beard semifinalist, and Frederick native Bryan Voltaggio.
After beginning his hospitality career as a busboy at a local hotel, Chef Voltaggio soon found his way to the kitchen at the young age of 15. He then took his love for all things food to the Culinary Institute of America, graduating the program at just 23.
Bryan's Culinary Journey: From Coast to Coast and Beyond
In the years since, Bryan has plated perfection in establishments all over the country (such as Santa Monica California’s STRFSH, Estuary in Washington DC, and Frederick’s own beloved institutions VOLT, and Thacher & Rye). In between, he found time to compete on the Bravo Network shows Top Chef, Top Chef Masters and Top Chef: All-Stars L.A., as well as Guy Fieri’s Tournament of Champions on Food Network — earning high honors for his edible art each time out. Notably, Bryan also appeared as a coach on Discovery Channel’s Battle of the Brothers (competing as a team coach against his brother Michael), thereby cementing his status as one of the country’s most notable kitchen experts.
Now that he’s found his way home to Frederick, Chef Bryan Voltaggio has continued to demonstrate why he is one of the most celebrated celebrity chefs in America. We couldn’t be prouder to be working with him.
